To escape, measure backwards, not forwards. Sullivan says, "All happiness comes from tracking your progress backward." Your big vision isn’t about ditching it; it’s about using it to guide you. Then, turn around and see how far you’ve come.

Think of it this way: The horizon isn’t a finish line, just a guide for setting measurable goals. When you reach one, don’t look further—look back at how much ground you’ve covered. That’s the gain—real progress you can see and celebrate.

For example, trying to lose weight? Instead of lamenting the number on the scale, review last week’s stats. Down five pounds? That’s a win. Celebrate it.


Daily Wins: The Engine of Momentum

Want to embed this mindset into your brain? Gather your team—partners, family, anyone—and share one win each day. Yes, your kids might roll their eyes at first, but so what? Have a rundown of positive wins at dinner or at the start of meetings—whether it's a business milestone, a personal breakthrough, or simply surviving a tough day.

Why does this matter for ADHD entrepreneurs? Because our minds tend to spiral into negativity fast. Sullivan emphasizes: “If you want to stay in the Gain, start by sharing and listening to wins. It’s simple but effective.” Miss a day, and your kids will remind you.


It’s Not About “Staying Out” of the Gap

The Gap never goes away. Even Sullivan admits, “I’m as susceptible as anyone.” The win isn’t perfection; it’s getting out of the Gap faster and spending more time in the Gain. Start with three minutes of Gain thinking. Build up to 30, then three hours. Repetition builds new patterns.
